We did it! We just posted our first podcast for Be A Better Catholic. In the episode, we discussed how you can be a better Catholic in modern society. Let's recap what we discussed and add more to what was said.
First off, I would like to thank our guest, Marie. She is a long-time friend of mine and has helped a lot with building this website. I would also like to thank my friend Patrick, who is one of our podcast hosts and has helped a lot with this website.
Now, let's recap. In modern society, it is hard for Catholics and Christians in general. Over these past few years, being a Christian is harder than ever. This is one of the biggest persecutions of Christians worldwide. In the Middle East, men and women are being martyred for the faith. Here in the US, if you are a Catholic or are part of the Eastern Orthodox church, you are said that you are evil, and that you are the reason for all of the problems going on. The result of this hatred of Christians makes us shy and scared about showing our faith. Patrick said something that I thought stood out. He said, "We should not be scared of our faith. You should not be scared of having your crucifix out of your shirt. You should be proud to declare your faith publicly". I agree with him 100% that we should not be afraid of publicly declaring our faith. That doesn't mean you have to say to everyone you meet, "Jesus is lord!" (Which is very cool). But if someone asks you about your faith, don't ignore them, don't be embarrassed. Say what you believe in and say it proudly. Another thing we talk about is how modern society is teaching so much sin. The West has collapsed, and people want instant gratification and pleasure. These things are the opposite of what Christ tells us. To add to this topic, all of the West was built on Christianity. The backbone of the West is Christianity; we need to be ready for anything. For example, St. Cyprian of Carthage, a bishop, and martyr who, when told he was going to be executed, simply accepted it with dignity and said, "Thanks be to God." He didn’t demand any special last rites, demonstrating his readiness to meet God. Let's say the final judgment was happening, many of us would imminently rush to church, get the sacrament of confession, receive the eucharist, and much more. We need to be ready for anything. No one knows the day nor the hour. We need to be spiritually ready for anything. Being a Catholic in modern society is so hard, but we can get better and stronger!
